Asian Wedding Photography Portsmouth Guildhall
Nazia and Martin had two completely different wedding celebrations, which were just a week apart.
The first one was a traditional Muslim wedding at the spectacular Guildhall Portsmouth in Hampshire. The second was a relaxed wedding at Polhawn Fort in Cornwall.
They chose Guildhall because it’s the bride’s family home and it was the only wedding venue they looked at. The venue is perfect for Asian weddings as can cater for 300 guests and has a massive stage which is a must for any Muslim wedding.
I enjoy shooting Asian weddings because the decor and colours are just incredible, not to mention the Asian food which I love!
The Muslim Wedding Ceremony
Just before noon, there was a small civil ceremony where only parents were present. After the couple were legally married they could start the Muslim ceremony. I love to photograph Asian bridal preparations as there are so many shiny details and jewellery involved and putting this on the bride it’s a skill in itself.
Martin and his family arrived in vintage cars and made their way to the entrance, where Nazia’s brothers and sisters were greeting them. Well in fact the tradition is that the groom has to pay the ransom for the bride, so after a few negotiations the price was agreed and the groom could come in and merry his bride.
During the Muslim ceremony, the bride’s family were praying for her marriage, which I found really touching and meaningful. After the ceremony and traditional family pictures on the stage I took the couple for some pictures in front of Guildhall. The weather unfortunately wasn’t on our side, however the couple and myself were happy with pictures.
Nazia and Martin’s wedding had such a good vibe and was so interesting to capture it. Here’s their colourful Muslim wedding!
