Bristol Register Office wedding photography is very affordable, and small civil weddings are becoming popular in the current climate. Bristol Register Office, also known as The Old Council House, is located on the corner of Corn Street in the historic heart of the city next to the St Nicolas market. This picturesque Grade II listed building with a neoclassical facade was opened in 1899 by Queen Victoria.
There is a choice of 4 different rooms for your civil wedding ceremony: the Bristol Room, the Mayoral Room, the Lantern Room and the Grand Council Chamber.
My favourite room licensed to host civil ceremonies at the Bristol Register Office is The Lantern
Room. It’s not the largest, but it is certainly the most ornate. It has a beautifully crafted
interior, elegant lighting and Regency decor. With a grand central dome ceiling that is
unique to neoclassical architecture. The walls are adorned with grand paintings of King
George II and Queen Charlotte, under which you say your vows. It has a capacity for up to 70
seated guests for a wedding ceremony.
The Mayoral Room is a popular choice for couples because it is a grand yet intimate space.
This means that you don’t have to sacrifice opulence and grandeur at a smaller wedding
ceremony. It has striking red painted walls, with oak panelling below, an ornate feature
fireplace, and beautiful paintings of some former Bristol mayors such as Richard Lane and
John Noble. It has a capacity of up to 50 seated guests for a wedding ceremony.
For micro and elopement weddings, The Bristol Room is ideal. A light and airy room, it has
large period windows facing out onto the historic and thriving St Nicholas Market.
Available only on Mondays and Tuesdays for wedding ceremonies. It is ideal for a low-key
and laid-back ceremony.
The Grand Council Chamber is the largest space, with a capacity for 120 seated guests and 30
standing. Queen Victoria inaugurated the room in 1899. It has huge windows along one side,
flooding the room with lots of natural light. There are also giant portraits depicting Bristol’s
rich history. It is a truly grand setting for a medium-to-large wedding ceremony.
I must mention the sweeping staircase at the Bristol Register Office. It allows you to make a
grand entrance and is perfect for group photos of the wedding party as well as romantic
portraits of the two of you.
