South Wales wedding photography

There are so many reasons why I love to provide South Wales wedding photography. Think of South Wales and you think of beautiful beaches and dramatic coastline, the vibrant capital city of Cardiff, bustling seaside towns, the Valley that were the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, historically rich castles and the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park.

So, if you’re looking for a wedding where your guests can really get away from it all and relax and unwind then a South Wales wedding might be just the thing for you. South Wales offers a wealth of different wedding venues that will suit all weddings from large extravagant celebrations through to last-minute elopements!

Cardiff Wedding Photography

The capital of Wales and its largest city, Cardiff is the base for Welsh political, commercial and cultural institutions. Its most famous landmarks are Cardiff Castle and the striking Wales Millennium Centre art complex in Cardiff Bay’s waterfront development. I always love shooting wedding photography in Cardiff because like most cities it caters for all types of weddings from high-end luxury to a rustic charm, from traditional to quirky and unusual.

One Cardiff wedding venue I enjoy returning to is The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Set in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. Shooting wedding photography at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama is always interesting as they offer two unique venues.

Wedding Photography in Gower

The Gower Peninsula coastline has some of the most beautiful beaches you’ll see anywhere in the British Isles and in 1956 was the first area in the UK to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are lots of fantastic Gower wedding venues. Oldwalls and Fairyhill are award-winning luxurious wedding venues run by the same company situated in North Gower near Swansea.  Another venue with breathing views and location is Ocean View Windmill (Gower’s best-kept secret). If you prefer to celebrate your wedding next to the beach, then your obvious choice would be the Oxwich Bay Hotel. This show-stopping award-winning venue has sweeping views over one of the most beautiful Gower beaches!

Welsh Castle Wedding Photography

I always enjoyed shooting Welsh castle wedding photography. Castles play an important part in Wales’s rich history and make the perfect fairy-tale setting for your wedding day. Castles are traditionally dark spaces so I always make sure I make good use of flash photography and work with all available light to make all of my images stand out. There are so many Welsh castles that make fantastic wedding venues. I always loved shooting wedding photography at Hensol Castle. This 17th-century stately home in the Vale of Glamorgan is very picturesque. Not to mention the imposing 12th century St Donat’s Castle, which is the longest continually inhabited castle in Wales.  A medieval tithe barn, gallery and adjoining Glass room with sea views is a dream background for any South Wales wedding photographer.

Brecon Beacons Wedding Photography

Nestled in the Brecon Beacons National Park and surrounded by mountains, Craig Y Nos Castle is one of the most romantic wedding venues in Wales. If you are after jaw-dropping views into the river Usk and Pen Y Fan Mountain range, then you need to check out Peterstone Court. On top of that, this beautiful Georgian Manor Hotel was voted the number-one wedding venue in the UK for Georgian splendour!  When farm and countryside is your thing then check out a beautifully converted 17th-century hay barn called The Barn at Brynich. If you would like to create a unique and personal space then you should take a look at Tall John’s wedding barn. This stunning blank canvas barn is just a few miles from beautiful Llangorse Lake, the largest natural lake in South Wales.

Wye Valley Wedding Photography

The Wye Valley is yet another Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the borders between England and Wales. This rugged and dramatic landscape is perfect for wonderfully atmospheric images. An excellent wedding venue in the Wye Valley is St Tewdrics. This 19th-century Italianate Villa wedding venue in Chepstow offers something truly unique and flexible as they avoid ‘wedding packages’ allowing you to have your wedding done your way. When shooting St Tewdrics wedding photography, I love the pretty courtyard and light-filled reception rooms. At the other end of The Wye Valley, you will find Llangoed Hall. This quintessential country house wedding venue is packed with charm including its maze and stream. I hope you will find this helpful and if you are looking for a South Wales wedding photographer, please get in touch.

Martin captured our ceremony at Hensol Castle in a natural and non-intrusive way. He is also very creative and our photos are just AWESOME. So lucky we found him!”
