As a photographer based near The Cotswolds, I always love it when I get
to return to be a Matara Centre wedding photographer. Matara Center is a truly unique Cotswold wedding venue with an Asian vibe, close to Tetbury in Gloucestershire.
The venue sits on 28 acres of rolling countryside. The parkland is being carefully preserved as natural habitats of woodlands, wetlands, flower meadows and hedgerows where many species can flourish.
If you’re a nature-loving couple and would like to see the cost of your wedding contribute to the
Matara Centre’s ongoing conservation work, then a wedding at this tranquil haven could be
perfect for you. A wonderful tradition that Matara has for weddings is that they plant
a tree for every wedding they host and have so far planted over 1,500 trees.
I love it when my couples incorporate tree planting into their day. It creates a special moment and is a
great match for my style of documentary wedding photography.
Matara consists of a beautiful Grade II listed regency house called Kingscote Park House. It an
a resplendent Grade II listed mansion house with an expansive farmhouse kitchen, dining area
and a private kitchen courtyard that dates back 800 years. Over the years, regency and Victorian
features have been added which can be seen in the individually appointed 10 bedrooms.
However, my favourite part of the house is the cloistered courtyard built around an ancient
beech tree. Outside there’s a beautiful combination of Asian inspired and formal gardens as
well as lakes and woodlands. All of which make great backdrops for amazing wedding
photos.
For wedding ceremonies, they offer six separate locations to say ‘I do’. Three indoors and
three outdoors. The most popular location is their cloistered courtyard that offers the
benefits of being both outdoors and undercover so it isn’t weather dependent. This Asian-inspired courtyard has vibrant foliage and koi-filled waters with water lilies. It’s a truly
stunning location for a wedding ceremony. And a real favourite with Cotswold wedding
photographers because it’s so utterly photogenic.
Another unique selling point of Matara Centre is that they are dog-friendly. So, if you can’t
imagine having your day without that important canine member of your family present – then
you don’t have to!
The easy flow of the house and gardens gives the venue great flexibility and is disability
friendly. This flow allows Matara to accommodate intimate weddings from 25 guests, right
through to large lavish celebrations for 200 guests and everything you can imagine in between.
You get to mix and match your favourite indoor and outdoor spaces to create your very own
wedding adventure.
For drinks receptions, the driveway and lawns at the front of the house a popular choices,
and the perfect place to enjoy an elegant drinks and canapes reception, alongside some live
music and/or some lawn games.
Wedding breakfasts can be held outside in the gardens under a tepee or marquee or indoors in
Matara Centre’s impressive Hilarium. This light and spacious room makes the perfect
banqueting space with a stunning glass dome as its centre that is adorned with strings of
lights that flood the room with tons of natural light. The Hilarium looks amazing all dressed
and ready to serve a wedding meal.

When it comes to food, Matara chefs work with you to create a bespoke wedding menu using
seasonal freshly prepared dishes with a farm-to-fork philosophy. You can be as formal or as
casual as you like. Maybe you’ll want a traditional hog roast, or a vegan feast or a sit-down
fine dining experience. It’s your wedding done your way. And with a team of chefs able to
accommodate Asian, Caribbean, Halal, Kosher, Greek and Vegan menus. Nothing is off the
table.
For evening celebrations, The Hilarium transforms itself into the perfect party space, with a
dancefloor right under the domed ceiling and a license for a DJ and live music your
dancefloor will be full. There are also five adjoining anterooms for guests to take a break
from the dancing. The Hilarium has direct access to the courtyard and gardens, where firepits
will warm guests whilst outside and create a cosy vibe. And Matara have a license for
fireworks if you want your celebrations to go out with a bang!
There’s accommodation on site for those choosing Matara Centre as a destination wedding
and making a weekend of it. They offer accommodation for up to 30 guests within their
Grade II listed Kingscote Park House, the Honeymoon Lodge and the converted haylofts.
The master suite in the house makes the ideal room for wedding preparations and is usually
where I start my day, capturing those all-important mornings of the wedding images. It’s light
and so spacious that it can accommodate you, your wedding party, your hairdresser, your
make-up artist and me, the most unobtrusive wedding photographer in the Cotswolds.
