There are many occasions when I have had the chance to be a Swindon wedding photographer. Swindon is a large town in the ceremonial county of Wiltshire, between Bristol and Reading. Both of them are only a 30-minute drive along the M4 motorway.
Surrounded by some of England’s finest countryside and famous attractions, Swindon is enriched with Victorian parks and gardens, an art gallery and museums such as the award-winning Steam Museum. Initially, it was mentioned in the Domesday Book as being a small market town. It is now a thriving and diverse modern town that is full of hidden gems, and possibly one of the South West’s best-kept secrets.
The town is easy to reach as a destination for people visiting the South West – some 30 miles from Bath and Oxford, and just 16 miles from Cirencester, the capital of the Cotswolds. The Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Berkshire boundaries are less than 10 miles away.
Swindon is home to the Bodleian Library’s book depository, the English Heritage National Monument Record Centre, the headquarters of the National Trust and the Nationwide Building Society. To say nothing of the South West’s most popular shopping Outlet Village which is housed within the beautifully restored Grade II listed buildings of the Great Western Railway in Swindon. There are around 100 shops and it is the biggest covered designer outlet centre in Europe!

There are lots of fantastic outdoor spaces for Swindon wedding photography like Lydiard Park, Stanton Park, Coate Water Country Park and Wiltshire & Berkshire Canal. Swindon is also home to some great wedding venues like Purton House, Chislade House and The Pear Tree which are the newest additions. If you prefer to get married in the countryside, then there are lots of great barns within 15 miles of Swindon. The most famous are Winkworth Farm near Malmesbury, The Great Tythe Barn in Tetbury and Cripps Barn near Cirencester.
